Hallux Valgus / Rigidus

We offer a unique approach to the treatment of hallux valgus and hallux rigidus by integrating shockwave therapy with magnetic therapy in an innovative treatment protocol, providing an alternative to surgery.

Hallux valgus is a condition where the big toe begins to deviate inward towards the next toe beside it. By definition, Hallux refers to the big toe bone, and valgus means “inward deviation”.

It is a condition which results from the formation of a bunion, and due to a high degree of pressure on the medial arch of the foot.

Hallux Rigidus is a condition where the big toe is restricted in its range of motion. This restriction could be seen by a joint that is stiff to move, or by a joint that doesn’t move at all. It's caused by either joint swelling that places direct pressure on the internal joint capsule, or from the formation of calcium spurs interfering with the joint. In any event, the joint is not capable of moving properly.

Treatment
Our treatment for both hallux valgus and hallux rigidus involves the application of shockwave therapy to the joint capsule, cartilage, and surrounding connective tissues. The shockwaves break apart the calcium spurs, flush out the joint inflammation and soften the connective tissues surrounding the joint.

Treatments do not harm the toe or surrounding tissues so you can easily walk after any treatment. In fact, you will notice an increase in the ease at which the joint articulates, and an increased range which the toe moves through.

Each treatment sees an improvement over the previous one until the toe is moving through its normal range of motion and without pain or restriction.

The number of treatments required will depend on the severity of the condition with respect to the calcium spurs and joint inflammation. An estimate of the number of treatments is given at the time of the assessment, once we have seen your foot.

We offer a no charge consultation & assessment process so that we may determine the severity of your condition.
