SCIATICA

Sciatica

Sciatica is probably the most well known of all nerve compression (pinched nerve) conditions that virtually everyone has suffered from at some time in their lives or at least has heard of.

What most people don’t know is that treatment for sciatica nerve pain is easily accomplished today with the wealth of knowledge we have about the condition, and the modern state-of-the-art technologies available to resolve it.

Before we explain our sciatica treatment and specifically treatment for sciatic nerve pain, we must briefly outline the 3 root causes for the condition to develop.

If sciatica nerve pain treatments protocols are to be successful, we must first identify the root causes for your particular case. We then offer focused treatments to solve those causes. In most cases treatment for sciatic nerve pain is highly successful.

Root Causes for Siatica

The sciatic nerve is comprised of 6 major nerves that exit the spinal cord in the lumbar (low back) spine where they merge to create the large common sciatic nerve.

Sciatica is the term used to indicate that the sciatic nerve is grossly irritated due to:

  • Compressed (pinched)
  • Stretched
  • Attacked chemically due to chemotherapy, high glucose (diabetes type 1), high sodium levels (kidney dysfunction), B12 deficiency, and so on.

Sciatica treatment, if it is to be successful, must target and resolve whatever is irritating the nerve. A competent diagnosis is then essential to determine which of the possible root causes are indeed present, to then prepare an effective treatment plan.

1- Sciatic Nerve Compression:

The 6 major nerve roots exiting the spinal cord (L4/5-S1/2/3/4) merge to create the major sciatic nerve.

If any of the spinal discs situated near each exiting nerve root bulges, it will compress that nerve causing symptoms.

If a muscle in the abdomen or buttocks is severely riddled with myofascial adhesions, this will compress the nerve causing symptoms.

If the muscles into the hamstrings, back of knee, or calf also have adhesions, the nerve could be compressed causing symptoms.

2 – Sciatic Nerve Stretch:

If the nerve is unable to glide easily through the deep muscles/ligaments of the abdomen, buttocks or legs caused by muscular issues, the nerve will be stretched whenever the body moves causing symptoms.

3 – Sciatic Nerve Metabolic Irritation:

Metabolic refers to the presence of chemical irritants affecting the sciatic nerves function at the cellular level. A short list of possible chemical irritants include:

    • Chemotherapy
    • B 12 Absorption/deficiency
    • High Sodium levels (kidney dysfunction)
    • Atherosclerosis (plaquing of the arteries)

    Medications (short list) for:

    • High Cholesterol
    • Gout
    • Acid reflux
    • Pain medication

      Treatment for Sciatica Nerve Pain

We are fortunate to have 5 state-of-the-art technologies in our clinic to resolve sciatica in all it forms. They are:

Professional computer Guided Spinal Decompression – used to treat bulging spinal discs compressing exiting nerve roots from the spinal cord.

Frequency Specific Microcurrent FSM – used to eliminate sciatic nerve swelling, fibrosis, sclerosis, calcification, chronic inflammation, traumatic injury, as well as for nerve regeneration to help restore normal nerve function.

Nerve Rebuilder – used to directly encourage nerve regeneration once the root cause(s) for the condition have been addressed and resolved.

Professional Shockwave Therapy – used to help return the pelvis to its normal posture reducing pressure on bulging discs. It is also used to release myofascial adhesions that may be responsible for sciatic nerve compression/stretch in the abdomen, buttocks, hamstrings, behind the knee, and calf regions.

Treatment sessions involve a combination of these therapeutic interventions to ensure maximum effectiveness in treatments.

Sciatica treatments and in particular treatments for sciatic nerve pain, must involve a commonsense approach if it is to be resolved. An accurate diagnosis, then targeted treatment to address either compression, stretch, or metabolic irritation are essential.

Specific treatment descriptions are too complicated to explain here so you are encouraged to either arrange a consultation/assessment or at least call us to discuss your particular case in more detail.
